Dr. Sloane Deluke Eusebio, BS, DC, CCWP, founder of Select-Care Chiropractic, PC, in Clifton Park, was in her senior year at the University of New Hampshire, on course to becoming a marine biologist, when she realized that wasn’t the most suitable career path for her. “While I loved marine wildlife, I wasn’t as enthralled with the research aspect,” she recalls. “Plus, marine biologists spend a lot of time outdoors in inclement weather, which also wasn’t that appealing.” At this point, she knew she needed a new plan.
Before Eusebio graduated with a degree in zoology, she was already researching other potential occupations. “I knew I wanted an advanced health degree, so I looked into veterinary medicine, dentistry, physical therapy and chiropractic care,” she explains. “The most intriguing was chiropractic; it seemed like a very uplifting experience in the health field, as it was more focused on wellness than on sickness, and that inspired me.”
Eusebio reached out to several chiropractors and asked if she could observe them at work. “Each of the doctors was a little different; one was formally dressed, another was in Birkenstocks and corduroys. There was no ‘chiropractor’ mold, which I loved. And they all were happy, successful and attracted the right patients to them—the ones that sought out their style and approach,” recalls Eusebio, who also discovered that chiropractic care was about much more than injury recovery.
“I learned that chiropractic care focuses on whole body and mind wellness, and that people who regularly receive chiropractic adjustments improved their overall quality of life. I really resonated with the holistic health approach that chiropractic care provides,” she says.
Knowing in her heart that becoming a chiropractor was the right vocational match, Eusebio went on to attain a doctorate degree from New York Chiropractic College. After graduating and working for two other chiropractors, she opened her own practice in 2002 and has been happily helping her patients get healthy ever since. “Chiropractic care is so empowering, so uplifting. It improves everything and helps put the power of your health back into your own hands,” she attests. “It’s often the catalyst for an amazing rediscovery of abundant health.”
Eusebio has enjoyed watching her practice grow and evolve over the years. “It’s been such a joy building relationships with my patients. I really don’t think of it as a job; being a chiropractor is who I am. That’s very liberating,” she affirms. “Plus, it’s turned out to be a great career for me as a mom, too, as it really allows me to manage my work/life balance very well.” The most satisfaction comes from witnessing her patients discovering more energy, achieving better balance and becoming more alive and thriving in their lives.
“So many people are living with low-grade discomfort or pain in their bodies. They’re not sure how to address it; their doctors say it’s nothing major, so they just accept it as a normal part of aging and think they just have to live with it.” However, Eusebio says that path is unnecessary. “It’s often the result of subluxation in the spine. Chiropractic care can help get that spine and nervous system back in balance, encouraging optimal wellness. Once people start feeling better, they begin incorporating more healthy living principles into their lives, like exercise, healthier food choices and taking high-quality supplements. It’s so empowering—realizing you don’t have to be sick or in pain and that you really can live a healthier and happier life.”
Eusebio also notes that chiropractic care can help a person have the best chance at ultimate healing after a serious injury. “With injuries that require more serious medical attention, using chiropractic care as a complement to your overall treatment plan can make a world of difference in your healing journey,” she says.
One of the biggest compliments for Eusebio is when her patients refer their friends and family to her practice. “It shows how much they understand the value of chiropractic care and how it benefits their overall health,” she says. “I especially love when my former pregnant mom patients bring their newborns in for an adjustment. It’s so affirming that what we’re doing here makes a difference and I feel honored that they trust me to help care for their loved ones.”
