Participants will dance, sing, jam and more at the 31st annual Flurry Festival on President’s Weekend from February 16 through 18, 2018 at the Saratoga Springs City Center, Saratoga Hilton Hotel, Saratoga Music Hall and Caffé Lena. The Flurry Festival features more than 300 performers and 250 dance and music events that include programs for families with young children, programs for teens, international music, singing, jamming and storytelling. Vendors will be on hand with dancewear, including shoes, and a variety of food options will be available, including options for vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free attendees.
In addition to the entertainment, there are also music instruction workshops for guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, ukulele, percussion, tune workshops and jamming for all instruments. An instrument check is available on-site all weekend long for those bringing instruments. Participatory singing and storytelling are woven through the weekend.
Young children will be busy with simple dances, square dancing, storytelling, puppet shows, movement games and sing-alongs. Teens will have their very own youth-only contra dance, youth-only Irish set dance, techno contra dances, teen-level sing-alongs and storytelling, a teen talent showcase, teen jam session, world dance for teens, body percussion workshops and swing dancing.
The lineup of international music and dance experiences includes Tahitian, French, Balkan African, Indian, German, Irish, Scottish, English, the Vanaver Caravan’s World Dance Festival, the Strawberry Hill Fiddlers and more.
Many styles have instruction available for beginners on up, so there is no need to bring a partner. North American dances include contra and square dancing, Cajun, zydeco, American tap, Appalachian clogging, country line dancing, Native American and Cuban.
Tickets are sold online until Feb. 9, 2018 and at the door all weekend long. Passes and discounts are available. For full schedule of events and more, visit FlurryFestival.org.
