Maccio Physical Therapy is conducting a mechanical and diagnosis treatment (MDT) workshop for neck, back, shoulders, hips and knees with a physical therapist that holds a master’s degree in ergonomics and occupational biomechanics and is a diplomate in mechanical diagnosis and therapy, the highest McKenzie Institute International educational level, at noon, February 19, and 5 p.m., February 20, 2018. They have been active in the capital region for the past 31 years and helped thousands of patients alleviate their pain
Statistics say that only 18 percent of patients with back and joint pain are referred to physical therapy by their physician. Thus, there has been a dramatic increase in the use of opioids for back pain management, as well as an increase in injections, surgery and MRI usage which have not been shown to be reliable. MDT is a process that determines whether back or joint pain is mechanical in nature and if there is a direction of movement that can abolish pain and restore normal function and prevent reoccurrence.
